V: The Final Battle (1984)
ITV had decided not to cover the 1984 Summer Olympic Games and, instead, decided to broadcast a brand new science fiction TV show created by KENNETH JOHNSON, V. The two-part miniseries began the science-fiction franchise concerning reptilian aliens known as the "Visitors" trying to gain control of Earth, and of the ways the populace reacts. When V debuted in the UK in July 1984, it was billed as a five-part series, including V - The Original Miniseries (TV series, 1983), which comprised of three episodes. The episodes were broadcast over consecutive nights.
V: The Final Battle is set several months after the events of the original miniseries. After a failed attack on a Visitor processing plant, the Resistance decides to change tactics. Mike Donovan and his son join the international Resistance, headed by Ham Tyler and Chris Farber, and their first priority is to free Julie Parrish who is being held on the Visitor mothership. Robin Maxwell, made pregnant by Visitor, Brian, goes into labour. Donovan turns himself in to save his son. Diana's colleagues are plotting against her but she claims to have a spy in the Resistance. Friendly Visitor, Willie, allows himself to be subjected to a new biological weapon - a red dust - which proves successful.
Johnson parted ways with NBC over creative differences regarding the content of the miniseries; his writing contribution is credited under the pseudonym "Lillian Weezer". RICHARD T HEFFRON was hired to direct.
When Part 3 was repeated in the Tyne Tees region, the following week there was a 10-minute "Conclusion and recap".Â
